Is it me, or does every other advert on the television seem to be government funded.  There has always been the recruitment ads for the armed forces, "Be all you can be" etc.  Fair enough, it is for a career, and in most cases a noble calling.  Over the years years we have had numerous health campaigns, remember the AIDS one?  And let's not forget the anti drug campaigns.  I always remember the big billboard featuring a Scouser strung out on smack.  It stigmatised Liverpudlians more than heroin abusers, if memory serves.  But there heart seemed to be in the right place, and if nothing else they tried to educate.  But over the last five or so years something strange has happened.

It all seemed to start with "Sid the Slug."  Some busy body, on some busy body board, more than likely unelected, decided that our intake of salt was too much.  Instead of hiring a respected expert in the field, somebody made the decision that get the message across, we would be better off being lectured by a CGI slug.  Get it?  Slugs don't like salt.  So we should

Child Poverty

Well Notes

E-mail Print PDF

Some priceless nonsense in the news this week.  To stem the tide of sickness, or "sick note culture" as the idiots in power would have it, Doctors are to be encouraged to issue "Well Notes" instead of sick notes, that will outline what duties a person is capable of carrying out.  This measure is in response to some fatuous statistic that claims

Over legislated, bullied and plain lied to, all charges that can be levelled at the shambles that was elected in 1997, known as New Labour.  In just nine years, Tony Blairs' governments introduced over 3,000 new laws, a rate of over one a day.  This lies in contrast to the 500 new laws enacted by the Tories in the nine years prior to the New Labour experiment.  Some of the new laws, originally printed in the Independent newspaper:

"It is now illegal to sell grey squirrels, impersonate a traffic warden or offer air Traffic Control services without a licence. Creating a nuclear explosion was outlawed in 1998.
